Latest headline on the radio the other day. Eskom is to hike electricity tariffs by up to 30% if it is approved by government. The reason - wait for it - we are not using enough electricity!! Yes, you heard correctly. After all the problems with power cuts and the calls to conserve electricity, people actually listened, and as a result, electricity consumption is down by over 40% in some places.
This does not sit well with the fat cats upstairs. After all, how on earth can they continue to receive their exorbitantly high salaries (+- R50 000 in some cases) when their poverty stricken comrades try to do the responsible thing and save?
